Tambo State School is a band seven school set amidst picturesque grounds with curriculum offerings for Kindergarten to Year 10 students. The student population totals 87 with enrolments having fluctuated between 65 to 100 students in the past five years.

Tambo is a small rural community situated on the Matilda Highway, 390 kilometres north west of Roma and 350 kilometres south of Longreach. It is the only town located in the Tambo Shire. The grazing industry, local government and small businesses are representative of the community of Tambo. There are very active community groups within the town, which involve a range of sporting, cultural and educational interests.

The school is the only educational facility within the town. However, a childcare centre operates every day in Tambo and provides young children with an introduction to Early Childhood Education.
